A woman walked into Bluffton Self Help with a portable oxygen tank. She suffered from severe Asthma and an upper respiratory infection. She required breathing treatments four times per day. She had recently been approved for a new payment plan with the electric company. She admitted to being confused how the new payment plan worked – she did not realize her agreement was to pay in advance for electrical usage. She thought she would have received a notice and an amount of time warning her of a future disconnect. We spoke to the electric company, paid a minimal amount to get electricity restored for our client, and helped her edit her account so that she will be notified via text messages when she needs more money in her account for future electrical usage.
