Dedra, after working over 26 years at the same job, was told she didn’t have a job anymore. But that didn’t stop her! She always wanted to work as a surgical technician, so she enrolled in the program at the Technical College of the Lowcountry. Short of funds to complete her studies she came to Bluffton Self Help for education assistance and received it based on her application, goal and references. Today, she is in in her final term and Dedra will soon be started a career she always dreamed about.
This is one example of how the recent grant awarded to Bluffton Self Help by the Women in Philanthropy is changing women’s lives. In the coming year, more women will experience the same pride and recognition this woman has. One by one they will move from poverty, unemployment or a low paying job, to study and earn a degree. Thank you Women in Philanthropy for your vision and support!!!
