Sharon Bomgardner has been a beacon of support for Bluffton Self Help’s GED Math students since the very beginning of the program. Under Sharon’s guidance, 11 of Bluffton Self Help’s GED students passed their Math subject test, getting them one step closer to achieving their goals. Math can be a challenging subject for those who aren’t naturally inclined with numbers, making Sharon’s gift of making math accessible so important for our non-traditional students.
One of the ways Sharon motivates our math students is by turning their math mistakes into opportunities to learn. Many of our students went to school in different countries and learned math processes, such as division, differently than how we teach those skills in America. Sharon is quick to tell those students that there are many ways to get the right answer and even encourages the students to share the different ways that they learned to solve problems, creating a collaborative environment where even our tutors can learn something new!
Thank you, Sharon, for all your hard work, dedication, and willingness to meet our students where they are at to help get them to the next level.
