Bluffton, SC, June 20, 2011—Bluffton Self Help, in cooperation with Second Helpings, will sponsor an special afternoon food distribution on Wednesday, June 29 from 4 to 6 pm at Bluffton Self Help on May River Drive in Bluffton. This is the first time BSH has offered food distribution in the afternoon. This afternoon food distribution will offer those clients, who work during the day, the opportunity to obtain some much needed food for their families.
“We receive calls from local residents who are unable to come to the food distributions in the mornings,” said Lili Coleman, executive director. “When Second Helpings called and said they can provide a special delivery on June 29th, we thought this would be a great opportunity to offer food distribution to those clients who work during the day and are unable to take advantage of the morning food lines on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.”
Residents, in need of food, will be offered 10 items per family from 10 am to noon that day and again at 4 pm to 6 pm. Names will be collected to measure the effectiveness of the afternoon food distribution and residents can choose the morning or the afternoon times to receive food, but not both. The food offered will be determined by the food received on the special delivery provided by Second Helpings.
Afternoon Food Distribution
“This second food distribution will help us explore the need to offer food distribution in the afternoon, in addition to the morning hours, once we relocate to our new building,” Coleman explained.
Bluffton Self Help will move to a larger facility this fall. Currently BSH is located at 1264 May River Drive in the former, turn-of-the-century jail house. BSH’s goal is to raise funds, in a building campaign, for the new building and to explore expanding service, to meet the needs of the growing Bluffton area.
