That’s right, Bomboras Grille was the first local restaurant to sign up to participate in the 2013 Second Annual RED APRON Chili Cookoff to be held at Tanger 2 Outlet on Saturday, February 23. Bluffton Self Help is seeking other restaurants to join the line up. Last year Montana, Captain Woody’s, Stooges and others participated.
The sign up has begun! The restaurant cooks can compete along with the amateur cooks for the title in four different categories that follow the rules of the International Chili Society cookoffs.
Red Chili, red sauces, red peppers and spices with no fillers such as beans, rice or spagetti. cooked on site
Green Chili, green sauces, green peppers and spices with no filler such as beans, rice or spagetti, cooked on site
Salsa, a combination of peppers, vegetables and spices that can be prepared on site or brought to the event
and Homestyle, a variety of chilies with cook’s choice of ingredients, fillers allowed, cooked on site
OR…They can compete in the People’s Choice Category, an unsanctioned category. People’s Choice Chili is similar to Homestyle and can be brought to the cookoff already prepared.
The spectators enter for free, but to taste and vote for the best People’s Choice Chili you pay only $5 and receive a wristband. To compete in the four International Chili Society categories, cooks must register with ICS and pay sanction fees.
