The Joy of Giving
It’s all about sharing the gift of giving, and Bluffton Self Help wants to bring this joy to the children in our community.
On Monday, December 21 from 1 to 3 pm, children of clients who come to Bluffton Self Help for food and clothing, will have the opportunity to choose a gift for their parent or care giver in a special holiday store set up just for them.
Children will be offered to choose from such items as makeup kits, scarves, toiletries, costume jewelry, hair products, small purses, etc. Parents will wait outside while the children shop. Volunteers will wrap the gifts for the children or supply bags to “hide” the gift until the family’s day of celebration.
“This is something we at Bluffton Self Help have wanted to implement for a few years now,” said Lili Coleman, executive director. “We get so ovewhelmed with our holiday programs, this idea seems to get lost but not this year. We feel it is important for children to learn the joy of giving and not only receiving gifts.”
The activities will include volunteers to help with the shopping experience, refreshments and holiday music. All of this will take place at 39 Sheridan Park Circle in Unit 9, next door to Bluffton Self Help’s main offices.
Donations for this special program are being accepted now through December 16 and items can be dropped off at Bluffton Self Help. Adult items for both females and males are needed, as well as monetary donations. Bluffton Self Help’s holiday elves love to shop and this year they will use donations to shop for both toys and items for the children’s holiday store.
