Thursday, November 1, 2012, Bluffton, SC—Holidays are just around the corner with Thanksgiving only weeks away. This is the season when Bluffton Self Help volunteers and staff roll up their sleeves and make sure those in need enjoy the holidays.
In the next two Saturdays, November 3 and 10 from 10 am to 2 pm, families needing assistance with Thanksgiving groceries must register to be sponsored by community members, businesses, churches and organizations.
“We continue to be amazed by the generosity of the people living in this community,” said Lili Coleman, executive director. “It seems as soon as the school year kicks off, the phone starts ringing with people asking how they can be included in our holiday programs.”
This Thanksgiving, Bluffton Self Help, with the generosity of sponsors and donors, hope to provide groceries to over 400 families to include a 10-12 pound turkey and all the trimmings. To be eligible to receive the grocery items the families need to be Bluffton residents and participants in the year-round food distribution program. They must also preregister on the registration days at Bluffton Self Help, 39 Sheridan Park Circle, Unit 10, in Sheridan Park in Bluffton located just off Highway 278, west of Highway 46. If a family has not participated in the food distribution program they can still register by applying for a BSH Swipe Card during the registration days.
People who sign up are matched with a sponsor whenever possible. If there are not enough sponsors then groceries are packaged for the remaining clients with food items donated from the community and distributed on Monday, November 19 from 12:30 to 4 pm. Bluffton residents with written referrals from other local service agencies after registration dates are also eligible for the Thanksgiving groceries while they last.
