Tracy’s Journey

Many individuals who have undergone extensive education in their home countries often face the need to have their foreign transcripts evaluated when pursuing advanced careers in the United States, such as in fields like medicine, law, or engineering. The process of transcript evaluation can be both time-consuming and costly, which can pose significant challenges for those who have recently relocated to a new country. Tracy’s experience mirrors this dilemma. She dedicated years to her education, earning a master’s degree in physical therapy in Costa Rica. However, upon her arrival in the United States, she discovered that obtaining the necessary transcript evaluation would require a substantial financial investment and potentially years of waiting. Understanding the urgency of her situation, Tracy began taking on various jobs to make ends meet, although these positions did not align with her extensive educational background.

Recognizing the need for a major shift to pursue her dream job as a physical therapist in America, Tracy made the courageous decision to pursue her GED credential. This endeavor would demonstrate her knowledge and skills to potential employers, bridging the gap caused by the absence of a degree from an American institution. In August 2022, Tracy embarked on her journey towards obtaining her GED with the invaluable support of Bluffton Self Help. Over the course of a year, Tracy worked tirelessly with a diverse team of subject tutors while simultaneously managing a full-time job and establishing her life in Hilton Head. Tracy’s remarkable achievement serves as a testament to her resilience and determination in restarting her education in a new country, all while navigating learning a new language.
