6 in 10 Beaufort County residents and 3 in 4 Jasper County residents are economically at risk.
Not earning a living wage, they are just one mishap away from a financial crisis. Neighbors are making difficult choices for themselves and their families, every day. Bluffton Self Help is making the choice to do more – to empower neighbors to change their lives, to collaborate with community partners to create resources and opportunities and develop strategic initiatives through research and passion. As our community continues to change and grow, a different response is called for.
In order to bring neighbors from surviving to thriving we need to make an investment in our community, more importantly, an investment in people. Bluffton Self Help is ready to move forward with the same compassion upon which we were founded 34 years ago, with a holistic approach to help neighbors be successful in the family, the workplace and in the community.
As we reflect on how we’ve grown and shifted over the last 34 years we know that there is still more to do to meet our neighbors’ needs with dignity and respect. Thriving communities are places where people are safe, healthy, and cared for, and that takes a lot of good work.
Every day, your investment in us ensures that we are responsive to ever changing needs in our community. Thank you for making that possible – for helping neighbors to understand what is possible.
“And as a single parent, sometimes that’s all we need. Someone that’s going to be there for us and help us through everything, anything. I would have never started if I didn’t walk through the doors and Mr. Tom didn’t tell me to come. I am just so happy they decided to take a little risk on me and give me the encouragement that I need. And be in my corner. Sometimes that is just what people really really need.” – Tina, Bluffton Self Help Neighbor.
