Jane and Joe welcomed the newest addition to their family – a beautiful baby girl – in May 2024. Unfortunately, their newest family member had a bumpy start due to numerous health issues, requiring regular trips to MUSC in addition to around-the-clock care. Since the family shares one car, Joe has not been able to work a regular schedule, causing financial hardships significant enough to risk foreclosure. Bluffton Self Help was able to assist the family with their mortgage, allowing them to stay in their home. The family was also introduced to The Market, providing them with the opportunity to nourish themselves while allocating the money saved on food, clothes, and diapers to other integral parts of their budget. Additionally, BSH connected the family with a Red Apron Alliance member able to provide skilled nursing care for their daughter, giving Jane time of respite and Joe the chance to return to working full-time. The power of neighbors helping neighbors often serves as the drastic difference between a dire and desirable outcome. Thankfully, this young family received the assistance they needed to serve as a firm foundation for the latter.
