To our community
At Bluffton Self Help, we were founded on the principle of acceptance. Acceptance and respect of all people, regardless of background, race, religion or beliefs. Acceptance that anyone who walks through our doors, has equal rights and deserves equal attention and respect. For 33 years, we have worked to serve the underserved while building a community where every individual is valued equally—a community with no room for intolerance and prejudice.
As we work each day to do our part to end the cycle of poverty and uphold the dignity and self-worth of everyone we serve, we are constantly reminded of the root causes of poverty in our community and in every community. We are painfully aware that racism is a leading cause of poverty, broken homes and hopelessness. The tragic and senseless death of Mr. George Floyd has, once again, shown a bright light on the bias and intolerance that surrounds us—bias and intolerance that cannot be accepted.
All of us at Bluffton Self Help stand with those who believe in justice, diversity, inclusion and equality for all. For too long, many have turned a blind eye to racism hoping that it would simply go away. We cannot continue to ignore this problem. Now is the time for us to come together as one, supporting each other and working together to eliminate the racism and violence that tears us apart.
We urge you to join us, in our common humanity, to treat each other with dignity and respect. The foundation we set forth today, paves the path for tomorrow.
