Why do you choose to volunteer at BSH?
I found out about self help from a friend of mine and we decided to try it out. After I came for the first time, I appreciated the clean, organized environment and friendly people and decided to stick around for a while. Now, i’ve been there for a while.
What has been your biggest “take away” from your time here?
I have learned to be more outgoing, as I have had to introduce myself to many people and talk to them as I worked.
How do you think this experience will benefit you in the future?
The experience has changed me and I certainly will continue to volunteer after I graduate high school, since, before BSH, I didn’t really like volunteering.
Is there a moment, a memory or a client that stands out for you?
There isn’t really a specific moment that stands out to me, but I always enjoy having friendly conversations with other volunteers and clients.

Why do you choose to volunteer at BSH?
I chose to be a BSH volunteer because I love working with all of the amazing staff members and volunteers. Everyone at BSH is so nice and it makes my day ten times better when I go to help out. But most of all, helping neighbors around Bluffton during the pandemic has been the most fulfilling.
What has been your biggest “take away” from your time here?
My biggest take away from volunteering at BSH is that many residents in Bluffton need our help in order to provide for their families. Being a resident of Bluffton, I feel that it is my responsibility to help my neighbors in any way I can.
How do you think this experience will benefit you in the future?
Having become more aware of a broader set of family needs, I suspect this experience has instilled more empathy in me on a permeant basis. BSH has inspired me to continue helping out at local food distribution organizations when I go to college in a few years.
Is there a moment, a memory or a client that stands out for you?
When the pandemic began to become a widespread issue in March, I was very happy to see the BSH community come together and figure out a way to continue giving back to our clients in a safe and efficient way. Each day that I help out during the pandemic is a moment that stands out for me because I know that, in this time of need, the people that rely on us need our support more than ever.
