Holiday Drives

2025 Turkey to Toys

The holidays are meant for joy, togetherness, and traditions — not worry. For so many of our Lowcountry neighbors, a festive meal or a gift under the tree is simply out of reach. Together, through Turkeys to Toys, we can transform worry into warmth and ensure our neighbors in need share in the magic of the season.

Leadership begins the moment you choose to lift someone else up — and today, these young philanthropists led the way.The students, staff, and families of Michael C. Riley Elementary School & ECC showed what love in action truly looks like, as they filled the BSH van with over 2,700 non-perishables they collected — each item a reminder that compassion is alive and thriving in our community.Thank you, Eagles, for stepping up and serving as such a powerful example of neighbors helping neighbors. Because of you, Thanksgiving will be a lot brighter for someone who might have otherwise gone without. We are so grateful for your school full of helpers. ✨#blufftonselfhelp ... See MoreSee Less

Last week, Bluffton’s own Barry Kaufman (@btownbarry) swapped his keyboard for canned goods — teaming up with CH2/CB2 co-columnist and Bluffton Self Help CEO Courtney Hampson to lend a hand as we prepare for our annual Thanksgiving Meal Distribution. Behind the scenes, The Market was buzzing with charts, lists, schedules, and a flurry of Red Apron volunteers who were hard at work turning months of planning into a smooth, festive, and heartwarming operation. These well-honed systems are necessary, as we respond to the 30% increase in need we’ve seen this year compared to this time last year. Barry jumped right in alongside two of our seasoned volunteers, helping sort, stack, and organize non-perishables lovingly donated by our generous community. These are the meals that will soon grace the tables of local families who might otherwise go without. Times are tough right now. Many families are doing what they can to counter-balance lost wages and SNAP disruptions due to a prolonged government shutdown. And the holidays on the horizon can add even more stress. That’s why your support means so much. Each Thanksgiving meal we provide saves a family roughly $175+ in groceries, easing the burden for the 60% of Lowcountry households facing financial hardship. Together, we can make sure Lowcountry neighbors in need enjoy the warmth and comfort of a holiday meal. Visit blufftonselfhelp.org/holiday-drives (also linked in our bio) to learn how you can help set the table with hope this Thanksgiving. When we all lend a hand, everyone has a seat at the table. ... When Maria first came to The Market, she wasn’t sure how she would stretch her budget—or her groceries—to nourish her family for the month. But thanks to our generous community, she no longer has to choose between paying rent and putting meals on the table. She even has a little extra for the holidays—something that, until recently, felt out of reach this year.At Bluffton Self Help, your gifts don’t just lend a helping hand—they create a ripple of impact that extends far beyond the meals or gifts provided. With the systems, experience, and accountability we’ve built, every donation is amplified into real, profound impact. We are so grateful for the trust our community places in us as we work tirelessly to meet the rising need. In 2025, 850 NEW households began utilizing The Market. Overall, we are helping 30% more households this year vs. this time last year.We absolutely cannot do this work alone. Your support matters now more than ever. Every financial contribution, every food drive hosted, and every share makes a meaningful difference for Lowcountry families like Maria’s.Thank you for standing with us, so we can continue to spark change—together.#StoriesOfImpact #NonprofitLeadership #BlufftonSelfHelp #NeighborsHelpingNeighbors ... Bluffton Self Help
After hearing such wonderful things about Bluffton Self Help from friends, Suzy decided to learn more. A quick online search led her to discover all that BSH offers. She was inspired and knew the Red Apron was for her, joining the team of volunteers in October 2024. A former educator, Suzy has become a loyal, trusted, and compassionate presence in The Resource Hub every Thursday. As one of our bilingual volunteers, she plays a vital role in helping neighbors navigate services and resources, often bridging language barriers that can make an already stressful situation even more challenging. Her calm, caring energy brings a sense of reassurance to everyone she assists—whether she’s helping someone apply for Emergency Financial Assistance or simply offering a listening ear. Suzy’s empathy, patience, and dedication reflect the very best of what it means to serve others. We are deeply grateful for the heart she brings to every interaction and to our mission as a whole. ... See MoreSee Less
