What does community impact really look like?
Sometimes, it’s a grocery cart filled with fresh, nutritious food. Sometimes, it’s an adult learner earning a credential that opens the door to a better-paying job. And sometimes, it’s a neighbor finding the encouragement, resources, and breathing room they need to turn a difficult chapter into a fresh start.
At Self Help, these moments are happening every day. And as our reach continues to grow, so do the opportunities for our neighbors to move forward.
Today, Self Help is serving 44% more families compared to this time last year.
It’s a significant increase, but the real story isn’t simply how many more neighbors we’re reaching. It’s what happens when food, education, workforce training, and essential community resources become more accessible to the people who need them.
Our Q3 2026 Impact Report offers a closer look at that progress and the people, partnerships, and possibilities behind the numbers.
Bringing Opportunity Closer to Home
Throughout 2026, we’ve been focused on a simple but powerful idea: Where someone lives shouldn’t determine how easily they can access opportunities to build a more stable future.
This quarter, that commitment took meaningful steps forward.
In Hardeeville, our Education & Resource Center continued gaining momentum, experiencing record utilization of education, workforce, and case management resources.
On Hilton Head Island, our new shared location with The Deep Well Project opened in August, bringing together the strengths of two longtime community organizations and making essential services more accessible to Island neighbors.
And in Bluffton, our ongoing programs continued providing the food, education, and individualized support that help neighbors navigate today’s challenges while preparing for tomorrow’s opportunities.
The Numbers Tell a Story. The People Give Them Meaning.
Through the first nine months of 2026, our community helped make some extraordinary things possible:
- 2,503 households served, connecting neighbors with resources and support.
- More than 550,000 pounds of food distributed, helping ease the pressure of rising household expenses.
- $1,398,290 invested through The Market, Clothing Closet, and Emergency Financial Assistance.
- $660,195 invested in more than 379 adult learners, supporting education, credentials, and pathways to greater earning potential.
- 42 neighbors received resume assistance, and 38 secured employment, turning preparation into meaningful progress.
But behind every statistic is something a spreadsheet can’t fully capture.
The relief of knowing there will be groceries for the week. The confidence that comes from walking into a job interview prepared. The pride of mastering a new skill. The possibility of imagining a future that once felt out of reach.
These are the moments that remind us why access matters.
There’s more to the story, and we’d love for you to see it.
