In April, Bluffton Self Help had the distinct privilege of welcoming Chef Orchid from SERG’s One Hot Mama’s to The Market for a one-on-one shopping experience that mirrors that of a neighbor.
The collaboration between BSH, Chef Orchid, and SERG Group was twofold:
To provide validation to the quality experience of The Market in addition to creating awareness for one of the organization’s most critical food drives of the year – Stock The Market.
The annual Stock The Market campaign allows The Market to properly stock the shelves in preparation of the summer months, when hungry children are home from school. Without access to free or discounted meals throughout the school year, families (many already struggling with increased costs of childcare during the summer break) rely more heavily on The Market for sustenance from June through August.
When neighbors shop The Market they don’t just gain access to sustenance including, protein, produce, eggs, and milk – items that might otherwise be inaccessible based on current market prices of these items. They also get to choose the foods that make the most sense for their families. Additionally, neighbors who shop The Market save up to $500 per month. With these savings, neighbors can tackle other critical portions of their budgets such as rent and utilities, allowing them to gain traction to move forward.
Having Chef Orchid stop by to shop The Market and then transform the ingredients she sourced into a fantastic family meal served as a testimony to the quality of items available for our families – all thanks to the support of a generous community helping us keep The Market shelves stocked.
BSH plans to launch the full episode of the shopping and culinary experience with Chef Orchid via their You Tube Channel at the end of May.
