On rare occasions, BSH is contacted by the authorities regarding cases where families are displaced from their homes in emergency situations. Jane and her young son had been physically abused and beaten on a regular basis. As statistics show – the abuse gets worse over time, as it did with this poor woman. Finally the young woman escaped, authorities intervened and restraining orders were issued. To increase her protection from the abuser, she and her son were taken from their home and placed in a safe, unidentified location. The detective himself, after assuring her safety in a new temporary environment, came to BSH where his car was packed with food, clothing, diapers, toiletries, personal hygiene products, and bedding to get them going in their new home.
