During this past month, our community rallied together to help stock the shelves at The Market at Bluffton Self Help. Through the generosity of many, Bluffton Self Help will be able to provide more than 3,000 bags of groceries to neighbors facing food insecurity.
The Market at Bluffton Self Help distributes 12,000 canned/boxed goods every single month. That is, on average, 300+ households receiving ten non-perishables each week in addition to hygiene items, milk, eggs, meat, and fresh produce. Bluffton Self Help relies on the generosity of the community and nonprofit partners for every single non-perishable on the shelves. Through financial donations, Bluffton Self Help is able to purchase fresh, nutritious foods to supplement deliveries from Second Helpings.
Over the past six months, Bluffton Self Help has seen a 10% increase in neighbors being served, yet we have seen about a 20% decline in food donations. Right now, Bluffton Self Help is bracing for perhaps the biggest increase in need that we have ever seen. Families are being faced with impossible choices. Neighbors are coming out of retirement and back into the workforce. Multiple families are living together to make ends meet. As the cost of living continues to rise so does the need. With children out of school during the summer months, even more neighbors will turn to The Market for help.
Lowcountry households will rely on The Market to shop for more than 8,000 bags filled with groceries, diapers, and hygiene items this summer. And we are relying on our community to help fill the need.
If you give before the end of the month your gift will have double the impact. Because of a generous anonymous donor, your gift today will be matched up to $13,500.

Together,
we can make sure that all our neighbors experiencing hunger have access to fresh, healthy food this summer and beyond.
